Coverage, measured
The retailers
Tracked means an active retailer in our scraper. A full scrape reads the retailer's whole catalogue — not just its specials page — and counts only when it finishes. Retailers that had a partial, specials-only or failed run this week are still tracked, but some of their prices may be older; every price shows its own date.
The products
Products you can browse in the explorer with "Deals only" switched off: one per product, priced above R1 (R1 is the placeholder some stores use for "price on application"), auction lots excluded. Rounded down to the thousand so the figure stays true between scrapes.
How fresh the prices are
Of the in-stock products priced above R1, the share whose price we re-confirmed in the last 24 hours and in the last 7 days. A price our sanity check held back as implausible does not count as checked until it is confirmed.
What "price checked 6 hours ago" means
Deals show when we last re-read that listing's price at the retailer. That date is the one to trust for the item in front of you — it is about that listing, not the site as a whole. If we can't date a price, we show no date rather than a guess.
- The homepage's price drops only include prices re-checked in the last 24 hours.
- Once a price has not been re-checked for 7 days, its date is shown in amber, and we stop saying "In stock" — the listing reads "Last checked N days ago" instead.
- Where we show availability and can't date the listing at all, it reads "Availability unconfirmed" rather than guess.
What the discount labels mean
- Below 90-day high — the comparison price is one we recorded ourselves: the item held that higher price on at least two separate days in the last 90.
- Retailer sale — the comparison price is the store's own "was" price, which we have not verified against our own price history.
- If we can't say where a comparison price came from, we show no discount, no struck-through price and no "save" figure.
